If you are like me, you might be looking forward to Valentine's day just for the chance to sample some of San Antonio's best. Take a look at my top 5 picks for 2011.

#5 Tong's Thai Bistro
Looking for a little more casual option for Valentine's day? Look no further then Tong's Thai. Located just northeast of the Midtown Brackenridge district, it's a hidden gem that promises insanely good food and service, no matter what you order. Don't be afraid to experiment here. It's all good. Some great dishes; Tom Ka Kai, good old-fashioned Pad Thai and for dessert, fried bananas.

#4 Bohanans Prime Steaks and Seafood
With your visit to Bohanans you receive complimentary valet service, a romantic atmosphere, great service and delicious food. Try the lamb tenderloin and the Valrhona double chocolate brownie. And BONUS, it's located in the heart of downtown's theatre district so it's an ideal start to a night on the town!

San Antonio, TX 78205

#3 Chama Gaucha
At Chama Gaucha, you don't just get dinner and drinks, you get an experience with top notch service and food. You start with the salad bar (not just any old salad bar either. This bar has nearly every fresh gourmet ingredient you can think of to top your salad). Once you decide you've had enough of the greens, you move onto the reds! You indicate to your waiter that you are ready for your carnivore buffet and they just keep coming at you with various meats to sample. They carve it for you tableside. A truly great experience for your Valentine!

#2 Citrus
Nestled inside the Hotel Valencia downtown, this Contemporary American restaurant is the ultimate in San Antonio fine-dining. It has a contemporary, crisp atmosphere, a great waitstaff and even better food. Don't leave without trying one of their acclaimed crabcakes. The antelope and stuffed quail were superb dishes I can recommend to anyone. Despite its priciness, a date here is worth every penny.

#1 Coco Chocolate Lounge and Bistro
Really. How can you get more romantic then French food with a chocolate theme?? How about restaurant decor that bares a striking resemblance to a boudoir? Unless you are there for their Valentine's Day or pre-Valentine's Day menu, you can't go wrong with the black mussels, the coco "salade au chocolat," or the grass-fed filet mignon. Save room for the Coco Signature Cake: "The Kiss" or any one of their premium house-made desserts.

FYI, as I wrote this, I was salivating the whole time and I'm not even hungry! Tell me what you think. What are some of your favorites?

Just a girl who enjoys a great dining experience and has a love of San Antonio. What better way to combine the two loves then to support local eateries! I don't pretend to know everything about food but I do stay abreast of food trends and terminology, great local places to get a unique and delicious dining experience and last but not least, great local places for dessert! Reviews are completely anonymous and as honest as possible!
